Napier is located at the southeastern tip of the famous Hawke’s Bay and is perched on the larger expanse of land collectively called as Napier Hill. Surrounding Napier is the towering range of the Heretaunga Plains which is part of New Zealand’s North Island territory.

Within Napier lies a group of suburbs such as Bay View, Greenmeadows, Hospital Hill, Meeanee, Napier CBD, Marewa, Pandora, Tamatea and Taradale. Currently, Napier is home to a total of 60,400 residents, all perched in a total land area of 54.16 square miles just for its urban grounds.

According to the reliable Koppen Climate Classification, Napier’s proximity to Hawke’s Bay is the main reason why it has an oceanic climate. Generally, the weather in Napier is warm and relatively dry, which is quite enjoyable for people who would want to spend time outdoors.

The hottest temperatures are experienced in the months of December and can even stretch further until March with an average of 24.1-degrees Celsius. The rainy season starts in the month of June, with 8.8 precipitation days, while the succeeding months of July, August and September are wetter. Napier experiences a whopping total of 2,258.7 hours of glistening sunshine, making it one of the sunniest places in New Zealand.

Transportation

Going in and out of Napier via air would definitely require the services of the Hawke’s Bay Airport, which is currently being remodeled and refurbished for better customer experience. The location of the airport with respect to the town is quite beneficial for travelers as it is only 22 kilometers north of Napier’s Hastings Aerodome.

If you’re on the more adventurous side, Napier and some of the cities connected to it have made options for visitors to see the town better through hiking and walking trails. Truly, these walkways are the town’s homage to minimizing pollution and traffic, and are considered to be a great start in your whole Napier experience.
